• Your knowledge of the Niche
• Your interest in writing about it
• Do you have a lot of information to share?

Once you've picked your niche and sub-niche, you would next need to focus on a domain name. You could either go ahead and buy a domain name or just end up using a free sub-domain. 

There are plenty of factors that would govern your decision regarding the need of buying one or using some existing sub-domain. But, when it comes to search engine optimization techniques you need to remember that your domain name no longer plays an important role in ranking - Don't take it for granted though.
